Silo Fundraiser in Ronkonkoma

I was approached late to do a fundraiser in Ronkonkoma for Silo.  It’s been a crazy week.  As many of you may know Long Island Dj School was honored in a article in Newsday (read here) this week which led to flood of messages on my facebook page and many phone calls.  It was really nice  to get the attention this week.  As a result of that attention , I got to play four hours fundraiser for Silo Ronkonkoma.  I mixed some country , disco, classic rock, and motown

Rocking a #electro live mix right before my house warming party starts.  Only I can pull off something so radical.  It really feels like i’ve been getting hit hard in the lately this time it was my grandfather passing just 2 months after my grandmother died.  I’m very proud of him being able to live three years after his stroke   I got to play for him in Florida one year.  It was a party for his lost lake golf club in Stuart .  One of my only gigs that I got to play when i was down there for 2 winters.  My grandparents are strong supporters of my Dj’ing.  RIP pop, i hope your up there dancing.

Back to do another fundraiser for our friend Joseph Holmes who had some unfortunate health problems related to renting a building for his business.  When i heard the story I said yes immediately.   Knowing what i know about the North Sea Fire Department and their extended community i knew that this was a cause i wanted to be involved with.  There was a great turnout, which resulted in a great raffle and much needed money to support the cause.  I forgot to take a picture but i was up on top of a double edge flat bed, i got to take some pictures from up high.  If you were stuck in traffic, i’m sorry.  Hopefully you had your windows open and you can here some of the great tunes that are displayed below

Fundraiser Relay for Life 2014 Southampton High School

This fundraiser is unlike any other. It’s twelve straight hours 6pm-6am. Luckily i have dj and friend Sam Santiago to help me get through the event. And even if you split it 50 50 six hours is still long a gig. So I would classify this as a dj marathon. It’s not just about Dj’ing as we both have to be sound engineers and at times the host the event. It’s for a good cause cancer research and i think they raised $56,000 dollars to help the cause and that’s just awesome. They decided to bring the event outside do to inclement weather that was on its way. I try to forget that i’m donating my time and try to concentrate on having fun and I had a blast. I was wearing goofy glasses and dancing around in my blanket. I tend not to get any rest during these things . I go all out and then recover the next couple days. Throughout the night, i went through most musical genre’s and all the songs listed below. I’ll try to get Sam’s list too

This is trance music mix 267.  This is a picture of my Nana and I when i was in 9th grade and my high school band went to Florida. She came up from Hope Sound to see me for 15 minutes and to see the band play. The competition was in Orlando at Disney. At 81 years old she’s passed on. I am fortunate to know her for 34 years and then some. She is a huge influence in my life. Always incouraging and pushing me to do my best. Her recent conversations with me were of love and she would tell me she was proud of me as i’ve come along way. She’s also been a huge cheerleader in my dj’ing, business and music and i can’t think of anything better than to dedicate my latest to her. It was long winter filled with snow and boredam.  Well not completely i just bought my house as you can read just about anywhere.  I put some thought into cleaning up my setup that i’ve had going for about two years.  I made three important changes to my setup.  The first thing i decided to do was to pair up the Mackie SRM-450 v2’s and get them high.  I decided to go with two crank stands that get the speakers up to eight feet high.  The second change i decided to make was to go with the slide case.  The idea was to get the mixtrack up off the table, and make packing up a little bit easier.  I had slide cases back in the day with my 2nd coffin   . The final modification is the 37 inch samsung which is perfect for running slideshows .  I’m not always going to use the tv but it’s there and i might want to add some karaoke later.  That’s something that i’m still thinking about.  My lights, fog machine, and strobe are not shown but still there if I need them.  My goals with my setup are to look neat, be organized and set up in as little time as possible.  The dj doesn’t get paid to setup or cleanup and you will never see me with big trusses and complicated setups that take hours to clean.   I take pride in keeping it affordable for people without doing too much.  Watch the video for a good laugh.
